About the Item
The Anthropocene is a bronze sculpture by contemporary artist Romain Langlois, dimensions are 109 × 76 × 47 cm (42.9 × 29.9 × 18.5 in).
The sculpture is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 8 editions + 4 artist’s proofs, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
In this bronze sculpture, Romain Langlois very realistically imitates the aspect of wood. The textures are obtained in the casting process and the colors through different patinas. Romain Langlois has denatured this banal object, has reshaped it and given it a new aspect which both intrigues us and transforms our impression of it.
Romain Langlois finds inspiration in the natural world. The artist's magnificent bronze work breathes new life into these stumps, rocks, and discarded branches. The copied nature is both formally and substantively transformed by the bronze patina: the forms are stretched and hollowed out, and a golden substance—achieved by polishing the bronze—springs from the object's center. We are witness to the creation of priceless objects, which causes us to disregard their humble beginnings.

Romain Langlois
Romain Langlois has become known for his unique bronze sculptures, to which he gives an appearance of a rock or wood. His work is not limited to this technical virtuosity: by reproducing objects that he takes from nature, he introduces a poetic twist that rises the ordinary to the rank of extraordinary. His artworks are part of major art collections (Matmut, Fondation Bullukian) and they have been exhibited in museums such as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris, 2017). They are also the subject of ambitious international commissions. “Everything is living, everything is moving, everything is changing. However, life cannot always show its best side; sometimes you have to root it out. This is what I am trying to do with my sculptures, gently, discreetly: to search for the life and expose it to those who are going to view them.’’
