About the Item
Molly Schulps grew up in Los Angeles, CA with parents who encouraged her to explore and practice art. Her father, John Schulps was a successful production potter and well respected in the field. Molly has primarily worked with ceramics since 1995, although she also uses many other materials such as paint, wood, wax, wire, etc. Schulps earned her Master’s of Fine Arts, with distinction, from California State University, Northridge in 2001. Molly has been the head of the Ceramics Program at Cypress College since 2004, before that she taught at various colleges and universities throughout Southern California. She has exhibited her ceramic work nationally and has facilitated and presented at several ceramic workshops. Recently, Molly has made the move to the historic town of Astoria, Oregon.

Molly Schulps
Molly Schulps is an artist and educator living in both California and Oregon. She grew up in Southern California and was deeply influenced by her father who was a successful educator and master potter. Molly works in her home studio making both sculpture and utilitarian ceramics. When she is not in the studio or classroom, she likes to explore her surrounding environments collecting imagery, sketching and researching. Her artwork explores narratives and visual imagery related to animals and the environment. Schulps has served as a professor of ceramics for the last 18 years at Cypress College and was the art department chair for the last 6 years. She has been invited to participate in some significant exhibitions at various museums and is in both public and private collections.

Milnes served as Dean of the College of Visuals Arts and Design at the University of North Texas from January 2006 to his retirement in August 2014, when he moved to Asheville, NC with his wife Karen, re-establishing Arbitrary Forms Studio there. A sculptor and ceramist, he served previously as Director of the School of Art and Design at San Jose State University in California, Director of the School of Art at Louisiana State University, and as Chair of the Art Department at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He taught at the Penland School of Crafts in 1972 and 1979.
Milnes is the past president of the National Council of Art Administrators and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. He has served as a consultant or evaluator for more than sixty universities, colleges, and independent schools of art in the US and abroad and served in Dallas on the Board of Directors of the Business Council for the Arts and as Chair of the Community Advisory Board for KERA, the NPR station for North Texas. He was recently named a Fellow and Lifetime Member of NASAD and served on the Board of Directors of the Center for Craft in Asheville, NC and as co-chair of the Blue Ridge Public Radio Strategic Planning Committee.
He is a member of the Southern Highland Crafts Guild.
