Monkey Head Natural Sisal Fiber Clay Sculpture Chimpanzee Anne Andersson Art
Located in Surfside, FL
Anne Andersson Sisal fiber wall sculpture Monkey Head (# 1) Hand signed to verso Dated 2009. Measures approx. 11" height x 10" width x 6 1/4" depth. Her sculptures are made of natural sisal Fiber from an agave and meticulously hand painted. The eyes are hand blown glass. Anne Andersson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a great desire to explore Nature and a Passion for Art. She received a degree in science in 1981 from Kjällbergska University in Gothenburg and a degree in Art from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. She now works from her studio in St. Petersburg, Florida as a Sculptor, illustrator and painter. Her work calls to mind the animalia artworks of Henri Maik and Gustavo Novoa. Anne Andersson's artwork serves as an homage to our planet’s charismatic and rare wild animals. Inspired by the majesty and beauty of exotic wildlife, and motivated by an urge to preserve them, Anne’s astonishingly realistic life-size sculptures capture the experience of seeing these animals up close without exploiting them. Her sculpted work using natural materials and clay, provides a humane alternative to big game trophy hunting and taxidermy. She combines her talents in painting, tapestry weaving and illustration with an intuitive attention to the smallest detail to truly bring her sculptures to life. She has created lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, cheetahs, bobcats, lynxes, pumas, panthers, elephants, rhinos, bears, water buffalo, bison, moose, wolves, coyotes and more—but she feels closest to the big cats. Anne graduated with honors at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 1989. It was then that she met Don Moore...

Matisse's Persian Woman - Sculptural Ode to Henri Matisse in Hand Built Ceramic
Located in Chicago, IL
Henri Matisse collected Persian carpets, Arab embroideries and African wall hangings throughout his life, his studio becoming a treasure trove of exotic and vibrant pattern. The collection was practical — it was the impetus for various works with voluptuous women surrounded by rich textures and patterns. Sandy Kaplan takes Matisse's work to a three-dimensional level in her ceramic piece simply titled "Matisse's Persian Woman". Sandy Kaplan Matisse's Persian Woman ceramic 18h x 14w x 14d in 45.72h x 35.56w x 35.56d cm SAK007 Sandy Kaplan b. 1943, St. Louis, MO 2021 Maturity and Its Muse, Art Saint Louis 2020 Storytellers Exhibit, Art Saint Louis 2019 SOFA Chicago, Gallery Victor Armendariz, Navy Pier, Chicago, IL Honors Exhibit, Art Saint Louis Anthony Bourdain - Parts Unknown: Ceramic Centric, Foundry Arts Ctr, St. Charles, MO Current Profiles, Craft Alliance Center, St. Louis, MO 2018 SOFA Chicago, Gallery Victor Armendariz, Navy Pier, Chicago, IL Maturity and Its Muse, Art Saint Louis Works from the Studios, Craft Alliance, St. Louis, MO Drawn From Life: Artful Aging, Washington University, St. Louis, MO 2017 3-D, Gallery Victor Armendariz, Chicago, IL SOFA Chicago, Gallery Victor Armendariz, Navy Pier, Chicago, IL 2016 Works from the Studio, Craft Alliance, St. Louis, MO A Moveable Feast Exhibit, Oak Park Art League, Oak Park, IL Maturity and Its Muse, Art Saint Louis 2015 Writers Round Table, Craft Alliance Gallery, St. Louis, MO 2014 Save the Last Dance for Me, Art Saint Louis XXX...

Picasso Madoura Ceramic A.R. 182 Corrida
Located in Boca Raton, FL
Pablo Picasso A.R. 182 Corrida 1953 17” round Edition of 200 White earthenware clay, partially glazed. Ramie 182 is a Madoura ceramic that one rarely sees come on the market. The photo you see here is the actual piece that you will receive. Most sellers online post using stock photos that don’t necessarily match exactly to the piece you receive. Small blemish on rim, see photo #3 for detail. The Certificate of Authenticity comes with this piece. We have sold over 3300 pieces with all positive reviews. We are located in the USA. When you buy from a foreign seller on 1stdibs, you have to consider the problems of getting the piece through Customs. There are often delays and considerable fees to pay in order to import the item. When purchasing from us, we ship the same day and you receive it via FedEx the next day, no problems or hassles. When you purchase from an auction house, you pay a buyer’s premium of anywhere from 23% to 28% over the “hammer price”. So when you “win” an auction for $20,000, the actual price paid is more like $25,000. By contrast, when purchasing from us, the price agreed to is the price paid by the buyer, no hidden fees. When you purchase from an auction house, you pay the packing and shipping fees, which are usually exorbitant. By contrast, when purchasing from us, the price includes packing and shipping. When you purchase from an auction house, the sale is final. If you receive the piece and are not 100% satisfied with it, there is nothing you can do about it. You are stuck with it. By contrast, when purchasing from us, the buyer can determine if they want to keep it. If not, the buyer returns to piece to us for full refund, and we pay the shipping both ways! The prices of Picasso Madoura Ceramics have been on fire lately (no pun intended). The major auction houses – Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips – have now been regularly holding Picasso Madoura Ceramic auctions...

During this time, he has taught at many notable universities, including Emily Carr University, Alfred University and New York University. "El Tren" Ceramic, Glaze, Colors, Mexican Folk Art, Four Sections
Located in Detroit, MI
SALE ONE WEEK ONLY "El Tren" is a whimsical and playful rendition of a train. It is beautifully glazed in various colors. This particular ceramic was from the collection of Jane and Richard Knight’s Estate. Jane Knight was a famous fiber and textile artist. Richard was a photographer who worked for Eliel Saarinen and Alexander Girard. The Knights and Girard became close friends and it was Girard who gifted “Santa Cruz De Las Huertas Jalisco” to the Knights. Alexander Girard left his personal collection to the Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe, NM. The Girards eventually amassed a collection of more than 106,000 objects from across the globe. Their 1978 gift of this collection to the Museum of International Folk art quintupled the size of their collection and prompted the construction of a new wing, which opened in 1982 and houses a mere 10% of the Girard Collection in the permanent exhibition Multiple Visions: A Common Bond, which was designed by Alexander Girard himself. This collection includes numerous multiples and is notable for its great breadth, including traditional arts, popular arts, and paper ephemera. “I believe we should preserve this evidence of the past, not as a pattern for sentimental imitation,” Girard once said, “but as nourishment for the creative spirit of the present.” Indeed, folk art was an important inspiration for Girard’s design work. The renowned Candelario Medrano...
