“This drawing is a tribute to Tom of Finland, whose work has long-influenced my own in relation to drawing, the construction of space, and self-portraiture. In Finland’s compositions, images of men in the landscape—logging, foresting, and relaxing (together, naked, clothed, alone, in pairs and in groups) had a profound effect on my own thinking about the queer body represented. I see no separation between land and body—we are nature. The queer body is not unnatural (that is a false dichotomy, often espoused by religious and conservative world views). The photograph is framed to the line and crop indicated by the photographer on the print, behind museum quality UV non-reflective glass. (A Fresson print is a type of photographic printing, created in 1899, that has been passed down in the family for four generations. Still to this day, the Fresson family keeps some elements of the process a secret but make sure it stays alive. Located in the outskirts of Paris, their workshop is the only one in the world to produce such prints.)
Albin-Guillot studied drawing and painting before becoming interested in photography. In 1925, she went on to have the first one-person exhibition at the Paris Autumn Salon. She also served as president of the French Societe des Artistes Photographes and in June 1928, was included in the first independent Salon of Photography in Paris. Published in 1932, she took a series of male nudes taken for Henry de Motherlant’s La Deesse Cypris. Portrait and Patriotic Epitaph written by Garibaldi is a CDV albumen print, datable around 1870 circa.
The portrait contains a patriotic dedication on the front and a long epitaph hand-written on the back.
Very good condition, slight signs of wear on the edges, typical of an object touched and revered and in any case written in pen on almost its surface. Cm 9,5 x 5,5
In the picture a reproduction of an unpublished painting by Garibaldi, which can be placed for its physiognomy and clothing in the years after the "Expedition of the Thousand" (1860). The photographic print also dates around 1860/1870. On the front low margin there is written a powerfull patriottic slogan: "Venite a morire con me" (come die with me), on the back, in same ink and same handwriting there is a long epitaph, readable for almost all of its entirety, reminiscent of a young and strong man who fell for Italy.
Unfortunately this long and poetic text, written on the small surface of the CDV, presents some illegible words written on the iedges, which certainly contained the signature, the date and probably the name to which it is dedicated.
in the text there are no coretions, but the punctuation and the stylistic form, with some repetitions, suggests that it was written in one go.
The handwriting, compared to other autographs by Garibaldi seems the same, especially in the use and in the form of capital letters, used as on other similar writings by Garibaldi to emphasize the words closest to the idea of death for the homeland.
It is reasonable to think that this portrait was given to the loved ones of an important fallen soldier, by Giuseppe Garibaldi as his habit. There are other similar documents, in which the hero dedicates poetic verses to famous or friends, in this case, however, the expressive power refers to images of the period of the first Italian battles...

1930 Black and white portrait photograph of Swedish/American actress Greta Garbo (Swedish, 1905-1990) by Clarence Sinclair Bull (American, 1896-1979). Greta Garbo poses in a top hat and collard shirt while gazing away from the camera. Printed by the artist circa 1970's. A black and white photograph, matte finish, double-weight paper, depicting a 1931 shot of the star titled 'Mata Hari,' printed decades later from the original negative, pencilled in the lower left corner "A.P.," Estate stamped and blind embossed in the lower right corner "Clarence Sinclair Bull," further blind embossed in same corner "The Kobal / Collection," verso with the photographer's black ink credit stamp, verso further with two "Edward Weston" black ink credit stamps dated "1981" and "1992," originally from the John Kobal Collection.
Greta Garbo was a Swedish-American actress. Regarded as one of the greatest screen actresses of all time, she was known for her melancholic, somber persona, her film portrayals of tragic characters, and her subtle and understated performances. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Garbo fifth on its list of the greatest female stars of classic Hollywood cinema.
Clarence Sinclair Bull was born in Sun River, Montana, in 1896. His career began when Samuel Goldwyn hired him in 1920 to photograph publicity stills of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio's stars. He is most famous for his photographs of Greta Garbo, taken between 1926 and 1941. Bull's first portrait of Garbo was a costume study for the silent romantic drama film Flesh and the Devil in September 1926.
