"Over a decade ago, before this Fatburger location in Sherman Oaks was renovated, I was admiring the evening neon light bouncing off of these chrome stools. I had even started to paint the entire parking lot full of cars across the street, but decided that the mood of the piece would be enhanced if I changed it to a seaside location, making this piece more of a fiction. Story often draws me into a painting, and I felt the exaggerated aloneness was more connected to the feelings of inspiration I found in this place."

Artwork Description:
Night Burger by Tony Peters is a breathtaking oil on canvas painting that captures a considered and tranquil atmosphere with striking detail. This plein air oil painting depicts the uniqueness of Anacapa Island in the chain of Southern California’s Channel Islands archipelago. Anacapa was formed by volcanic eruptions. Its desolate landscape is dominated by a distinct geology of steep precipices and jagged rock formations. Marion Kavanagh was a pupil of William Keith in San Francisco who, upon learning of her move to Southern California, urged her to contact Pasadena artist Elmer Wachtel. A romance blossomed and the two were married in 1904. During their marriage, out of respect for her husband, Marion Wachtel painted in watercolor, giving Elmer Wachtel the honor of painting in the more “serious” medium of oil. After the untimely passing of her husband and a period of grieving, Marion took up oil painting in 1930, working both en plein air and in the studio.
