Artist Statement
"I am always looking for different ways to capture the beauty of the San Gabriel Mountains as they loom above Pasadena. I found this view while scouting and exploring the Arroyo Seco. From some of the vantage points, there was hardly any evidence of modern development. This inspired me to paint the scene as it might have looked more than a hundred years ago. "
—Michael Obermeyer
Description
An original oil painting by Michael Obermeyer painted in Pasadena's Arroyo Seco near the La Loma Street Bridge (renamed John Van de Kamp Bridge). The scene is intended to appear as it had perhaps 100 years earlier.
