Matthias Biberon Bench in Oak
By Matthias Biberon
Located in Santa Gertrudis, Baleares
Matthias Biberon (Paris, 1977) lives and works in Perche (Normandy / France).
He began working with wood in 2019, leaving behind photography and ceramics, which he had practiced successfully for many years. In wood, he finds the pleasure of imagining shapes and building them, with a combination of both naivety and attention to detail, and a freedom that neither conceptualism nor ceramics had given him. His furniture is organic, respecting the original shape of the wood and following its knots and veins. The search for balance and precision is one of the cornerstones of Matthias's work.
Carefully sourced, the wood types used - Oak, Elm, Cedar, Walnut - have been dried for decades, giving them an unrivalled patina. His trademark? Visible construction and the blending of materials, with stone a natural addition to his creations; for each of them, he seeks a form of balance, purity and softness, a functionality that is both poetic and sculptural, the simplicity and force of a haiku.
Passionate about art, it was while progressing towards Arts & Crafts that he embraced the aesthetics of functionalism, Mingeï and the thinking of William Morris. He is sensitive to the Arte Povera of Jannis Kounellis and Giovanni Anselmo, the Zen influence of John Cage, the freedom of Don Cherry...

Mobichalet Brutalist set of 4 Solid Wood Chairs 1960
By Mobichalet
Located in Santa Gertrudis, Baleares
Mobichalet, founded by a teacher turned cabinetmaker named Joseph Deffense in Beauraing, Belgium, in 1950, had been active a decade, aiming at furnishing second homes with rustic furnitures, which left a sought after legacy of strikingly powerful and peculiar handcrafted brutalist pieces.
The chairs forming this set are typical of the designer : the seat itself is a solid slab of pine wood, the headrest is thick, a simple rectangular cuboid, and, as expected in a brutalist design, the construction is very simple yet efficient and sturdy with no sharp angles. This extremely nice set features an homogeneous seat height and very good backrest angle through all the chairs, ensuring an unexpected and consistent comfort.
Under the seat, as illustrated in the pictures, the brand logo is directly carved - or drilled - in the wood with large stencil...

! Poul Kjærholm PK 22 Chair Reupholstered in Cowhide E. Kold Christensen 1963
By Poul Kjærholm, E. Kold Christensen
Located in Santa Gertrudis, Baleares
Poul Kjærholm (1929–1980) the praised Danish designer, the "furniture architect", designed the emblematic PK22 Chair in 1956. Standing out from the other Danish mid century designers, his predilection material wasn't wood but steel.
This PK22 gets its outstanding comfort from the cowhide which is floating above the metal structure, thanks to the curved crossbars that holds the feet together without interfering with the seat's ergonomy. The obviously powerful and effective design speaks for itself, fitting perfectly a more intimate space needing structure and discretion thanks to the thin and light side view, as well as larger rooms thanks to the wide seat and backrest creating subtle geometric shapes.
The chair has been reupholstered in an elegant black and white cowhide, whose unique pattern interacts gracefully with the design.
The frame bears...
