La Prima Pietra-Ancient Architectural Arched Doorways Leading to Lush Landscape
By Carol Pylant
Located in Chicago, IL
Meticulously rendered stone archways lead to a stone path meandering into a lush landscape in Carol Pylant's stunning architectural painting entitled "La Prima Pietra". The pristine space suggest inner solitude and peace. This calm continues through the archway and into the rich green landscape beyond the walls. The artist often combines imagery from her travels to Italy, Spain and throughout Europe with memories of elsewhere. The artwork is framed in a heavy black wooden frame with a silver inset adding to the richness of the piece. It measures 36.5 x 42.5 inches framed.

Girona Pause - Realistic Architectural Oil Painting
By Carol Pylant
Located in Chicago, IL
Throughout this piece Pylant explores the concept of impossible spaces, by creating urban scenes that blend into nature, creating portals within the artwork.
The juxtaposition of urban and natural gives the artwork a surreal sense that immerses the viewer with a comforting sense of familiarity. By incorporating scenes of the present with imagery from past memories, Pylant develops a dialogue between past and future, creating a compelling and striking image that completely absorbs the viewer in its serene beauty.
Moreover, the artist often combines imagery from her travels to Italy, Spain and throughout Europe with memories of her childhood home in North Carolina. The artwork is framed in a silver wooden frame measuring 32 x 42 inches.

Uscita - Large Scale Trompe L'oeil Gardenscape Inspired by Ancient Roman Frescos
By Carol Pylant
Located in Chicago, IL
"Uscita" takes Inspiration from ancient Italian frescos originally found at the Villa di Livia outside of Rome. The trompe l'oeil frescos were from a subterranean room used for dining. The lush gardens gave the dinner guests the illusion of dining alfresco. Here Pylant took particular notice of the flora and fauna painted over 2000 years ago only to discover they were species that were also present at her then North Carolina studio. The artist adds an architectural element to the gardenscape to suggest a portal from the past into the present. This exploration of the ancient world and its connection to the present is a central theme running through Pylant's work.

Entrata Severa, Architectural Gardenscape Inspired by Ancient Roman Frescos
By Carol Pylant
Located in Chicago, IL
Inspired by the ancient trompe l'oeil roman frescos of the Villa di Livia, this gardenscapes by artist Carol Pylant focuses on the most deteriorated and weathered sections of the frescos. Amidst the flora, the artist inserts an architectural element, an ode to her travels and teaching in Italy. By combining the present with the past, the artist continues her exploration of our spiritual and concrete connections with the ancient world. This piece is framed measuring 25.5h x 25.5w inches.

La Villa di Livia V, Gardenscape Taken from Ancient Roman Frescos, Oil on Paper
By Carol Pylant
Located in Chicago, IL
In this series, the artist takes Inspiration from ancient Italian frescos originally found at the Villa di Livia outside of Rome. The frescos are from the subterranean room used for dining. The lush gardens gave the dinner guests the illusion of dining alfresco. This exploration of the past and its connection to the present is a central theme running through Pylant's work. Here Pylant takes particular notice of the flora and fauna which was also present at her then North Carolina studio. This work is framed and measures 14.75h x 14w inches.
