14K Gold Signature Classical Revival Cupid Medallion

Created as part of our signature collection, this 14k gold intaglio medallion depicts Cupid seated on top of a bow quiver. Cupid, the god of love and attraction, draws his arrow, ready to strike an unsuspecting victim with the power of love. Beneath him are rolling clouds that Cupid rides, as if on a ship. The image is outlined with a border of three lines to complete the beautiful image.
Using a rare bronze intaglio from the late 1700’s, we created a mold and cast the pendant in gold. We hand-carved depth into the mold so that the details would pop on the contemporary medallion as beautifully as they do on the original antique intaglio, and then lovingly added a gentle patina by hand to the finished piece.
The intaglio used as a mold for this medallion is attributed to the James Tassie workshop, circa the late 18th century. Born in 1735, Tassie was a Scottish stonemason who invented a glassy white paste perfect for replicating gemstones. Tassie was commissioned across Europe, first by Catherine the Great of Russia, then by the Wedgwood factory, to create imitation gemstones and elaborately carved intaglios. In 1773, most of the infamous blue and white cameos in the Wedgwood catalogue were cast from molds made by Tassie. The artist left behind a collection of over 15,800 intricate pieces of artwork. A beautiful rose gold and diamond bracelet from the Victorian era. This piece of jewelry features 7 gorgeous rose cut diamonds that are arranged from the center in a descending order. The largest diamond at the center measures 4.9 mm in diameter and the smallest ones, at either end, measure 2.8 mm in diameter. Each diamond is held within 8-pronged, raised buttercup settings that individually conform to the rose cut diamonds and is foil backed. There are some very small dents along the edge of the bracelet, these are age appropriate for a piece that is 130 years old and are only a minor distraction to this pieces beauty.
There is a lovely hand-made quality about this piece of jewelry. It has an original bifurcated design and at the center a row of multi faceted diamonds. A beautiful 14k yellow gold bracelet from the Etruscan Revival period, circa 1880. The bracelet is exquisitely hand-made and is a fine example of cannetille gold work, which is similar to filigree work with fine gold wires that curl around thinly hammered sheets. Cannetille gold work was inspired by embroidery and nature. The repeating curling designs on each segment of the bracelet are harmonious and elegant. The diamond shape of the segment has an oval decoration, framed with gold wirework, and inside this, there is a symmetrical curling design.
Each segment measures one inch and the bracelet, made up of six segments, is approximately seven inches. Each segment is hollow, and connected through thick gold links decorated with gold beads. The bracelet feels great when worn, and has a safety chain so that it doesn't fall off. The bracelet weighs a total of 18 grams and is in perfect condition.
