Its design is inspired by various cultures and styles, whilst its high quality celebrates some of the best craftsmen of the late 19th century. Of a tiered pagoda shape, the clock is surmounted by an eagle, its wings spread wide landing atop a vibrant lapis lazuli ball. The eagle is most likely a reference to Turul, a mythological animal which is a symbol of Hungary. This bird of prey is also a popular feature within Turkish traditions. Within a canopy, supported on four sturdy lapis lazuli pillars two prominent silver-gilt bells are hanging. These are carved with various motifs such as acanthus leaf design and connect to the clock mechanism below. The bells ring informing its users of the time. All four sides of the piece are inset with a clock, an unusual feature on an object of this type and a testament to its highest quality. The inclusion of clocks on all sides signifies that the antique is aimed to be a centrepiece, admired from all sides. The dial is decorated using the champlevé enamelling technique, whereby ‘parcels’ are carved into the silver gilt and into which enamel is poured. The 12 numbers are coloured in black with a gold outline and are surrounded by a white circular background making them stand out and easy to read. The hour clock dial is cast in the form of a sun, while the minute hand is represented as the moon. The two motifs symbolise one’s bright and gloomy sides of existence. The four corners around the clocks are mounted with three-dimensional female figures dressed in traditional garments from around the world. Each feature impressive floral and figurative design representational of the best of German porcelain wares. The pieces are topped by richly ornamented lids. Surmounted by extensively applied three-dimensional flowers and greenery, the designs create the illusion of a real flower bouquet. Below the flower bunch, the porcelain base is revealed. Decorated with rocaille motifs and coloured in pale blue, pink and shining gold, the pierced detailing enables the easy diffusion of potpourri scent. Rococo style genre scenes adorn the baluster-shaped body of each vase. Set in a woodland, the intricate paintings portray figures dressed in typical 18th century garments. On the second vase, a couple is joined by a lady in a reclined position holding a basket full of flowers. A pair of twin pale blue rocaille-shaped handles are mounted on both sides of the vases. Richly decorated with butterflies, roses, carnations and sweet peas, the design is completed with delicate floral composition on the white porcelain ground. Below the handles, a brown-haired winged putto is seen reaching towards the front. The bright blue cloth covering parts of his body stands out against his soft, pale skin. The base of the vases is shaped with further rocaille forms, the detailing highlighted in gilt. A large female figure, in a similar position to the putto, reaches forward holding a basket of flowers. The flower types are identical to the larger mounts on other parts of the vases, demonstrating the makers' exquisite skill to make intricate porcelain details in various forms, shapes and sizes while maintaining their real-life appearance. Both vases stand on porcelain stands, supported on four scrolled feet. Each is decorated with yellow, orange, blue, cream, red and purple flowers. The sides are painted with Rococo style genre scenes and floral bouquets. The pieces are marked with the blue crossed sword mark and incised ‘B.C’. Large and very Fine French Empire period ormolu and malachite mantel clock French, circa 1825 Height 89cm, width 57cm, depth 23cm This very Fine, sculpturally decorated mantel clock dates to the first French Empire period, and combines excellent antique clockmaking with Fine Classically-inspired sculpture to make a beautiful decorative piece. Both the backplate and the silvered brass dial, painted with Roman numerals, are stamped 'JACQUIER, A PARIS.' It bears the serial number 146 to upper left hand margin, and features steel moon hands set within a generous gilt laurel wreath cast bezel; it is cased in malachite (a later veneer), and richly adorned with gilt-bronze. The case is surmounted with a gilt-bronze sculpture of the Roman leader Caesar who wears a toga and a laurel crown...

Louis XV Rococo style clock and barometer set by Gravelin French, Late 19th Century Clock & Barometer: height 77cm, width 32cm, depth 15cm Designed in the Louis XV Rococo style, this very fine clock and barometer set dates to c.1870 and was made by Parisian makers Paul Gravelin & Louis Marti et Cie in the time of the French Belle Époque. The matching cases are cast with scrolling foliate decoration, with intricate, elegant swirling flowers and ribbons, in rocaille form. The dial of the clock is painted with both Arabic and Roman numerals and signed to the centre 'Paul Gravelin,' above the dial, and below: 'Paris, 8 Rue Charlot,' while the square-plate eight-day movement is by Marti, an stamped 'Louis Marti et Cie, Bronze Medaille.' The gilding is of exceptional quality, and demonstrates the prowess of late nineteenth century Parisian craftsmen, who looked to earlier French regal periods for stylistic inspiration yet updated styles, particularly the Rococo, with their own individual flair, as is evident from these fine antique timepieces.
