Modern Tzedakah Box by Gruss
Located in New York, NY
This tzedakah (charity) box, crafted by Brooklyn-based artists Lorelei and Alex Gruss in the year 2000, is an exquisite example of Judaic artistry. The design features a silhouette of a cityscape, likely evoking Jerusalem, rendered in gold-toned metal with intricate cutouts. The background is inlaid with iridescent mother-of-pearl, lending the piece a luminous, ethereal quality.
Beneath the cityscape, the Hebrew word “צדקה” (tzedakah) is prominently displayed, symbolizing the Jewish practice of charitable giving. Two decorative blue gemstones, set into two stars of David, enhance the front, adding a touch of color and sophistication. The box’s wooden structure complements the gold-toned metal and mother-of-pearl inlay, creating a harmonious blend of materials.
This beautifully crafted tzedakah box...

Large Ludwig Wolpert Sterling Silver Round Tray
Located in New York, NY
Large Kudwig Wolpert sterling silver round tray with pierced Hebraic prayer decoration on rim and a wooden cutting board. Center back is marked 'Wolpert.' The Hebrew words pierced around the tray 'מזון וצידה השביע לנפשינו' mean "with sustenance and provision, He has satisfied our soul." It appears in the Nishmat Kol Chai prayer, recited during Shabbat and holiday services as part of the blessings of praise and gratitude. The prayer expresses thanks to God for His goodness and mercy, highlighting the blessings and kindness He bestows upon the world.
Considered one of the greatest Jewish goldsmit and designer, Ludwig Yehuda Wolpert, was born in Germany, 1900-1981. He was born in a small village near Heidelberg, Germany to a poor Religious Orthodox family. During his childhood he suffered from discrimination due to his family's Lithuanian origin and his cleft lip, as well. Following the presentation of the works in the 1930's exhibition "Kult und Form" (Ritual and form") at the Jewish Museum in Berlin, his work became well-known in the German Jewish world. His works show the great influence of Modern design, especially of the Bauhaus movement. Wolpert's works avoid decoration, using clean and geometric shapes. In 1933, following the Nazi rise to power in Germany, he immigrated to the Land of Israel with his family. There, he worked in the "B. Friedland" Workshop where he designed and manufactured silver tableware and ritual articles. Together with Victor Solomon...
