Steelcase was founded as the Metal Office Furniture Company in 1912 by Peter M. Wege in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Metal Office Furniture Company's first products included fireproof metal safes and four-drawer filing cabinets which Wege invented and manufactured for the Macey Company. In 1914, the company received its first product patent for "The Victor," a fireproof steel wastebasket. The Victor gained popularity due to its light weight achieved through a patented process of bending flat steel at right angles to create boxes, and its ability to prevent fires at a time when smoking was common indoors, particularly in the workplace. In 1915, the company began manufacturing and distributing steel desks and in 1937, the company collaborated with Frank Lloyd Wright on office furniture. The partnership lasted two years and resulted in some of the first modern workstations. The company officially changed its name to Steelcase, Inc. in 1954 and became known as the leader of the furniture industry in the late 1960s due to the volume of its sales and in 1973, the company debuted the Series 9000 furniture line. Jere displaying various unique and abstract geometric designs comprised of steel, brass, and copper arranged in the center of each metal square. C. Jere (a.k.a.) Curtis Jere is not a single artist but is a nom-de-plume for a group of artists working for Artisan House and well known for their phenomenal jewelry, metal sculptures, and collectibles. This series of four is a MUST have for any wall that needs a bold statement piece, touch of Modern style, or simply an intriguing, phenomenal piece of artwork! Position them to your preference and change any wall from being bland, to BOOM! This pair of tables have been completely restored to their original glory. The tops have been stripped and repainted and the legs have been sanded and given a fresh finish. He has received many international design awards for his work for Humanscale, Knoll, Philips, Steelcase and NEC including Germany’s Red Dot Award, the IDSA Gold Award, The Spark Award, London’s FX Award, the ID Magazine Best of Category, the IBD Award and The Interiors Magazine Best Office Design. Wonderful Moorish style Frederick Cooper hammered copper urn or jug shaped double handled lamp with a black coolie shade. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The exterior of the shade was showing some wear so we have given it a new coat of black matt paint it still may have some small imperfections. It is large scale and comprised of a hand hammered copper urn or jug shaped body, a round black painted wood base, hand forged hammered copper and iron double handles, and a knob shaped brass finial. And it is topped with a stunning black coolie shade with an inner shade that has a black and metallic gold modeled finish. It almost gives off a bronze hue…It’s just GORGEOUS!! This table lamp is Moorish style, but it leans a bit Traditional as well. We think it will blend in beautifully in any room that needs just the right amount of elegant ambience. It’s going to be lovely on a side or end table in your sitting room, on a sofa table in your living room, or on an accent table in your bedroom.
Frederick Cooper, an artist from Chicago established a studio to create gorgeous sculptures and watercolor paintings in 1923. He was also drawn to the still fairly new invention of lamps. Mixing such materials as brass, fabric, glass, and wood, he created exquisitely designed lamps that complimented the quick innovations in American architecture. The heritage continues today. They use fine materials such as brass, bronze, copper, nickel, marble, jade, and alabaster. They also create art glazed ceramics, hand decorated porcelains, and crystals. Stunning vintage Italian modern Lucite and chrome table lamp with polished aluminum shade, chrome shaft, and solid Lucite and chrome stacked discs by Noel B.C. Italy. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The shade has a few dings & creases from use in our opinion it does not detract from its amazing look. The lamp retains its original cord with inline switch. It is in perfect working condition. There are no outstanding flaws in the lucite and there is a slight darkening in the chrome somewhat like tarnish and cleaning has not removed, but it does not detract from its over-all beauty. Gorgeous antique Victorian tall Lincoln style full size bed in solid walnut and walnut burl with footboard and side rails. It is in wonderful original vintage condition. That does not mean it is without beautiful age patina of marks and distressing from over 100 years of use. The very top of the carved crown on the headboard had cracked and broken away and been lost over the years. But one of our staff artisans has hand carved a replacement. It is spectacular. There is also some new bracing to the back of the headboard to help with stability. Please see photos, circa mid-late 19th century.
When I was a teenager this high Victorian style of bed is what my mom (a very talented interior designer) put in my bedroom (previously I had a white and pink frilly canopy bed my dad made me) and it remained in her home long after I left. Robert Marcius was born in Greenville, Mississippi and he began designing and producing sculptures, jewelry, and objects d’art when he moved to New Hope, Pennsylvania in 1972. He formed a partnership with Gene Jonson, and they formed “Jonson and Marcius” and moved their business to Manhattan. During this time, he supplied Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel, and Bloomingdale's with jewelry and Karl Springer with accessories, furniture, and sculptures. After seeking out Jonson and Marcius in 1975, Lorin Marsh launched their business of an original and unique line of furniture and accessories. Cartier and Tiffany also featured items manufactured by Jonson and Marcius. During the 1980’s Marcius sold his partnership and moved his operations to North Carolina where he designed the product and direction for Casa Bique Ltd. until the early 90’s. For 4 decades he has developed and designed for such clients as Frederick Ramond, Garcia Imports, Casa Stradivari, Thomasville, Lane, Kinder- Harris, The Platt Collections, and many others.
