Handsome vintage Mid-Century Modern Keller furniture Valkerie II Line dining or side chairs by Edmond J. Spence, a pair. Comprised of oak frames, blue fabric upholstered seats, and chrome sabots on the front feet. This piece has been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The seats have been newly upholstered in a plain blue/black duck fabric. What a TERRIFIC TWOSOME!!! This is a gorgeous pair of vintage Valkerie II Line dining or side chairs designed by Edmond J. Spence for Keller Furniture. They are comprised of lovely oak frames with slightly angled backs featuring sculpted “boomerang” shaped backs with spindles, straight round tapered front legs with stretchers and chrome sabots on the feet. Their seats have been freshly upholstered in a plain blue/black duck fabric. (We are calling it blue / black as some see it as black and some see it as a deep navy blue.) Did you notice that the handsome chair back and flared back legs are all one piece? Just an awesome design… and super comfortable!! They are mid-century modern with a Danish or Scandinavian modern flair, and they are going to be magnificent seating in your dining or kitchen area, side chairs in your bedroom, or extra seating in your family room. Sometimes you just need a simple little pair of chairs. You know? Just good looking, sturdy, and serviceable chairs. This is just that pair!
Edmond J. Spence was an American designer who made a name for himself interpreting Danish Modernism in his own way and blending it with the atomic and organic influences of the mid to late 1950's. Mr. Spence grew up in a family business that manufactured high quality traditional furniture, including ornate, custom carved pieces. He was trained as a designer, and created industrial products, household items including clocks and radios. He began to focus on furniture, and he sensed the trend toward modern design. During the 1950s, Spence drew on Asian and Swedish influences in developing ideas for his own style of modern furniture. He incorporated aspects of Mexican design to create the Continental-American collection tagged “Ageless Furniture-Edmond J. Spence Design.” Manufactured in 1953 by Industria Mueblera. His work has been described as “a little bit Deco, a little tiki, with a heavy atomic & Danish influence.” He won awards and in the early 50’s his work was displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York. And a fun fact, his furniture was used on the set of the “I Love Lucy” show for many years. -Mid 2 Mod. Mr. Spence passed away in 1986.

A FABULOUS quartet of quintessential Mid-Century Modern magnificence!!! WOW!! This is a set of four vintage dining chairs by Foster-McDavid comprised of gorgeous walnut frames and the original cobalt blue faux Naugahyde leather upholstery on the seats and backs. They have high tapered backs with a wonderfully unusual design as the fabric wraps over the top and extends about a quarter of the way down the walnut back… it’s really a stunning feature! Exquisite scenes of Paris created by French artist Bernard Buffet to display in your own home! We have two mid-century modern unsigned lithograph prints consisting of a larger print of a scene titled “St. Martin Canal” dated 1956, matted inside a lovely black and silver painted wood frame. And a smaller print of a scene titled “France Le Port de La Rochelle” dated 1955, matted inside a wood frame. These mats and frames are original to the prints. The St. Martin Canal is located in the heart of the city just adjacent to the Seine River and today is a popular tourist destination. Can’t you just see yourself standing upon that bridge with the breeze blowing your hair as you gaze upon the beautiful “City of Lights??” Or maybe you would prefer walking along the harbor watching boats come to port as they sail in off of the Atlantic Ocean? That’s exactly what you can imagine as you gaze upon “France Le Port de La Rochelle!” La Rochelle is a city on the west coast of France and a seaport on the Bay of Biscay. Both of these scenic areas are breathtaking, and Buffet captured their beauty with his proficient Expressionist style!!! Kipp Stewart, a celebrated American designer, born in 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania did not lead a charmed childhood. Sent to California to live with distant relatives at a young age, you could call him a self-made man. His furniture designing fate was sealed at 15 when hitchhiking to school he passed a storefront shop and studio on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles with pencil industrial drawings in the windows and fell in love with them. Kipp worked hard, turning down a track and field scholarship at USC and instead enrolled at Chouinard Art Institute in the late 1940s. Again, he worked very hard days and nights becoming a renowned artist, architect, and award-winning designer. He currently resides in Carmel, California and is still painting.
Alexander Stewart Orton MacDougall was born in the late 1920s in Pasadena and grew up in a Green and Green house which he credits for his fascination and love of design. Judged early with a learning disability which he obviously overcame, Stewart attended Chouinard Art Institute after a short time in the Navy. He then went to work for Victor Gruen and Associates where he met his mentor Rudolf Baumfeld who had studied under Le Courbusier...

Let’s get this party started!!! Did you know, a jester, court jester, fool or joker was historically a member of the household of a nobleman, or a monarch employed to entertain guests during the medieval and Renaissance eras? A jester was also an itinerant performer who entertained common folk at fairs and markets… and now this whimsical performing duo is ready to entertain YOU!!! This is a lively pair of figural table lamps in the style of Marbro comprised of molded plaster with intricately hand painted details. They have antiqued gold painted finials under new black silk like drum shades. The male is wearing a fabulous one piece garment embellished with gold and black diamonds, a cape with a broad gold ruffled collar, a black face mask with bright blue eyes, a Renaissance pirate style hat, and he is jamming out on his mandolin with one foot perched upon a ball. The female jester or “Plaisante” appears to be dancing and getting her groove on to the beat of the mandolin. Her outfit matches the male jester with black and gold diamonds down her pants, an identical wide gold ruffled collar, and a gold zig zag on the front of her top. And let’s not forget to mention her gorgeous gold shoes!! She also has a black face mask with blue eye slots and her hat is pointed with jewels on the front. She holds a facial fan which she waves as she dances and a shawl that drapes loosely across her back and flows as she glides to the music. They are sturdied by antiqued gold painted stems and they both stand upon a square base stacked upon a larger gilded square with rounded edges… They are absolutely EXQUISITE!!! Can’t you just hear the strum of the strings and see them laughing and dancing in front of their King or nobleman? We certainly can! They will be wonderful in a game or entertainment room, in your living room, one on each side of the sofa upon a pair of end tables or side by side on a sofa table, or in your bedroom, one on each nightstand beside your bed. They are mid-century modern with a little Art Deco and Hollywood Regency flair and will blend in beautifully with many décor styles. If you are a clown collector or jester lover and have been searching for just the right addition to your home… you just found it! They are amusing, completely charming, and sure to entertain you and your guests for years to come!! There’s no more time for “funny business….” You simply MUST make them YOURS!!!

What an Excellent Ensemble of seating!!! This is a very handsome vintage set of 4 Steelcase chairs comprised of a wonderful cantilever chrome tube base and arms with lovely black plastic arm rests. They have clean, sleek, classic lines with rounded seat backs and contoured seats upholstered in their original gray faux leather or vinyl fabric. We say these chairs are mostly modern, but they would definitely blend in beautifully with Art Deco, mid-century modern, Bauhaus, and other styles. They are extremely comfortable, bursting with impeccable style, and will look wonderful surrounding any dining, office, game, or conference table!! They would also be stunning extra seating scattered about in your living or family room! This set of four is definitely superb Steelcase seating!!
Steelcase was founded as the Metal Office Furniture Company in 1912 by Peter M. Wege in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Metal Office Furniture Company's first products included fireproof metal safes and four-drawer filing cabinets which Wege invented and manufactured for the Macey Company. In 1914, the company received its first product patent for "The Victor," a fireproof steel wastebasket. The Victor gained popularity due to its light weight achieved through a patented process of bending flat steel at right angles to create boxes, and its ability to prevent fires at a time when smoking was common indoors, particularly in the workplace. In 1915, the company began manufacturing and distributing steel desks and in 1937, the company collaborated with Frank Lloyd Wright on office furniture. The partnership lasted two years and resulted in some of the first modern workstations. The company officially changed its name to Steelcase, Inc. in 1954 and became known as the leader of the furniture industry in the late 1960s due to the volume of its sales and in 1973, the company debuted the Series 9000 furniture line. Rugged, Rustic, and Ranch Oak!! This is a SUPERB vintage step end table by A. Brandt comprised of a rustic solid ranch oak frame with an Acorn Brown finish that is signature to A. Brandt Company furniture. The all-over woodgrain is outstanding, and the finish is gorgeous. The step cube or box has two drawers with square wood pulls, and it has wonderful farm or country style legs with pegs through the tabletop… a cool detail! What a beautiful way to spoil your lingerie!! This is a stunning vintage mid-century modern lingerie chest designed by Glenn of California. It is comprised of GORGEOUS rosewood top and drawer fronts bordered by an aluminum strip, grooved handle pulls on the sides of the drawers, cased with black painted sides. It has eight drawers that graduate in size from smaller at the top to larger at the bottom. Maybe you don’t have lingerie?? No worries!! Although it is called a lingerie chest you could certainly use it as a tall, narrow dresser in your bedroom or dressing area. It would be a lovely cabinet to use in a study, office, hall, or entry for linens, books, office supplies, or anything you want to stow away in a phenomenal piece of mid-century modern excellence.
Glenn of California was owned by father and son team Isaac and Robert Baron and based in Arcadia California and has been credited for being at the forefront of the West Coast modernist design movement in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The company made a name for itself when it hired Milo Baughman. They would go on to hire Swedish architect and designer Greta Magnusson-Grossman, the first woman to receive an award from the Swedish Society of Industrial Design. The significant furniture line she and Baughman designed called the California Modern Collection became known for its laid-back Los Angeles style and integration of walnut, iron, and Formica. Glenn of California collaborated with many notable designers including Kipp Stweart, Paul Laslo, John Kapel, & Stanley Young. Although Glenn of California is no longer in business, their high-end vintage furniture is sought after today.

Fabulous antique replica spelter detailed sculptures of the Marly rearing horse and groom original stone sculptures by Guillaume Coustou. These replica sculptures were extremely popular in the Victorian era and were done by many artists. This pair is in wonderful antique condition with no outstanding flaws we have detected. I knew I needed these to offer to you the moment I saw them. This lovely pair of antique Victorian highly detailed sculptures of the famed Marly rearing horse and groom sculptures are after the stone originals by Guillaume Coustou and will look amazing on your mantle, or wherever you decide. These small replica sculptures were done by many different artists in the late 19th century and were all the rage. Most were never signed but show the original signature of Coustou on the base, as do these. This handsome pair are cast in spelter, an alloy of which zinc is the main constituent, and have an exquisite age patina. They are mounted on their original black painted wood bases. Each sculpture is similar but different.

It's 5 O’clock somewhere!! What a FANTASTIC vintage Art Deco dry bar or liquor cabinet!! It is comprised of wonderful Philippine Mahogany and finished all the way around so it can float nicely in any room you choose, plus we have added a lovely new black painted base… and it looks FABULOUS! The front double doors are spilt at the top and in the center by a wood handle that runs the length of the doors of the cabinet. So, you can open the smaller top section and leave the lower portion closed or vice versa. The right door closes over the left, so simply pull the right-hand door using the handle which reveals the inside of the cabinet featuring shelves and a small center storage unit with doors. Piano hinges assist each door in opening and the back of the doors are lined with a gorgeous vintage bark cloth...

Fabulous modern tessellated Mactan stone square end table with a diagonal peach stripe and a round glass top with beveled edge in the style of Maitland Smith. The wood base holding the side together had gotten wet at some point and puffed causing the corner seams to separate. We have installed a new bottom and pulled those seams together again. Magnificent… Mactan Stone…. And the style of Maitland Smith!!! This is a marvelous square end table comprised of a gorgeous Mactan rough edge stone pedestal base featuring a smooth, polished diagonal peach stripe and a lovely round glass tabletop with a beveled edge in the style of Maitland Smith. So, a fun fact about Mactan stone… It is a sedimentary conglomerate of shale and coral quarried in the Philippines on an island called Opon which is located at the eastern part of the province of Cebu. It’s an island encircled by fascinating beaches and wondrous sights. The original name for these stones was "Coral stones" but that changed as the years passed by. Mactan Stones is Opon's Marvelous Gem. And this end table is DEFINITELY a gem!! Isn’t it GORGEOUS??? Its style is modern and a bit of Art Deco Revival with a Hollywood Regency and Mediterranean feel. Maybe even leaning a bit Postmodern… Either way, this spectacular end table is going to grace your home with its stunning presence whether on the side of a lounge chair in the living room holding a beverage or next to a chair in the sitting room hosting a nice table lamp.
