Incredible 1950-1960’s Scandinavian Modern teak 4 drawer low cabinet sideboard (or bench) Model #394 by Kai Kristiansen for Aksel Kjersgaard Odder. This piece has been attributed based upon its stamped mark, archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. There are a couple of small darker spots on the top. A broken leg has been repaired and we have touched up some nicks & dings. Fresh coat of Danish oil applied. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. My, my… what have we here? A fabulous Danish low cabinet? YES. A stunning Scandinavian Modern sideboard or media/console cabinet? YES. An incredible low bench or dresser? Also… YES!!! Talk about versatility overload!! This is a phenomenal low cabinet model #394 by Kai Kristiansen for Aksel Kjersgaard Odder. It is comprised of a gorgeous teak frame with stunning wood grain, straight square legs, and four drawers featuring 2 double recessed half-moon handles. The top drawers open from the bottom, and the bottom drawers open from the top! It’s a simple but oh-so-stunning detail. This is an INCREDIBLE cabinet and it’s bursting with versatility, impeccable style, and ample storage. It could be used as a wonderful low dresser for lingerie or other delicate items in a bedroom, a fantastic sideboard, credenza, console, or media cabinet in a living or dining area. Maybe a marvelous low bench cabinet in a hall or entry, or in any room that needs a touch of quintessential Scandinavian Modern flair. It’s EXACTLY what the designer ordered!
Kai Kristiansen was born in 1929 in Denmark. His approach to design was, and still is colored by his outlook on life with his constant search of “getting as much as possible out of as little as possible.” A phrase he uses to this day is “Economy, ecology, and common sense.” He was taught and trained as a cabinetmaker by a Danish design role model Kaare Klint. Lawrence Peabody was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts in 1924. He trained at the Rhode Island School of Design, and he earned a Bachelor of Art degree in 1950 then went on to study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 1955 he started his own design firm called Lawrence Peabody and Associates in Boston, Massachusetts where his clients included Richardson Brothers, Kohler, Sears & Roebuck, and Boyd Lighting. He assisted in designing several hotels in the United States and the Caribbean. He purchased a home in Haiti in the 1960’s where he and his family would live for six months out of the year. It is where he befriended DeWitt Peters, the founder of Le Centre D'Art, which helped promote interest in Haitian art & craft giving opportunity to hundreds of local artists, many of whom were once impoverished. Mr. Peabody served as Director of Le Centre D’Art. He incorporated Haitian art in his designs and helped bring a collection of one-of-a-kind furniture made by Haitian craftsmen to the United States. Chinese Chinoiserie Dining Table Rosewood & Mother of Pearl Round to Oval

Wonderful vintage Chinese Chinoiserie dining table comprised of Rosewood & Mother of Pearl (m-o-p) round top with 2 leaves, converting it to a small oval with one leaf and large oval with 2 leaves. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. This Asian style table is in excellent vintage condition with the exception of a small missing piece of m-o-p on the top which we have repaired by filling with wood filler and painting with a pearlized paint. You can still see the spot when looking for it but doesn’t show overall. There was also a nick on the inside edge of one of the leaves that has been filled. The whole top and leaves have been scuffed and given a coat of poly for durability. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-Late 20th Century.

A warrior is one who sacrifices himself for the good of others. His task is to take care of the elderly, the defenseless, those who cannot provide for themselves, and above all, children- the future of humanity. This is a magnificent vintage Chinese warrior or Guan Yu sculpture comprised of stunning rosewood with intricately hand carved details and a removeable guandao (Chinese pole weapon). In Chinese culture, General Guan Yu represents loyalty and valor. People believe that by having his image in art or sculpture in their home will protect their family from harm. And while we don’t believe he is going to break out with any actual martial arts moves; his fearless presence commands the room and demands attention! You may notice that in some of the photos our warrior friend is holding his guandao upside-down, don’t judge! Even the best of warriors tend to get exhausted from a long day of defending humanity and protecting mankind. A guy can get a little turned around! Just look at his expression… he is OVER it!! Magnificent vintage MCM (a.k.a. Mid-Century Modern) to Modern Harvey Probber orange tuxedo style 1571 club chairs with black painted sleigh bases, a pair. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that they are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. They have been professionally shampooed and are in wonderful condition. There is a slight sun fading to the fabric that cannot be detected unless you remove the cushions, and we did some slight touch up to the legs. Please see photos and zoom in for details. Are oranges named oranges because oranges are orange OR is orange called orange because oranges are orange??? Hmmmmmmm???? We may never know… BUT we DO know that this pair of orange club chairs by Harvey Probber is PHENOMENAL!!! Double your seating pleasure with this dynamic duo comprised of fully upholstered tuxedo style frames, deep seats hosting loose zippered foam filled seat and back cushions, fabulous black painted sleigh bases, PLUS they are wearing their original orange large weave hopsacking fabric. WOW!! They are stunning in their simplicity, extremely comfortable, and ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!! They will be fabulous in the corner of your bedroom, in the living room across from your sofa, in the sitting room with a wonderful accent table in between, or in the den facing the fireplace. They are mid-century modern with a modern feel and will blend in beautifully with many styles of décor. This pair of club chairs is ready to be your new favorite vintage pieces and make a bold statement in any room you choose!
Harvey Probber was born on September 17, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York. He began his love for furniture early and while attending high school he took a part-time job in a used furniture store and was inspired to try his hand at drawing ideas for furniture. Probber sold his first sofa design when he was just 16, for $10. After high school graduation, he accepted a job as designer for Trade Upholstery which was a small manufacturing facility. The 1940’s was the beginning of American modernism, a time characterized by young designers with talent, initiative, and a willingness to take risks with new ideas. Probber was one of an early band of pioneer designers in a field that included iconic names such as D.J. DePree of Herman Miller, Hans Knoll, Georg Tanier, and Jack Lenor Larsen. Probber established Harvey Probber, Inc., in 1945 and in the mid years of the twentieth century, Harvey Probber became one of America's leading designers. He favored exotic woods, highly polished lacquer, hand-rubbed finishes, and extravagant upholstery fabrics. In little over a decade, Harvey Probber, Inc. became one of the country’s leading contemporary furniture firms. His most significant design breakthrough was his modular seating concept. It was the first of its kind. He also introduced the “sling chair” and “nuclear furniture” which could be clustered and had interchangeable pieces. By the 1970s, Harvey Probber, Inc. had opened trade showrooms in major design centers across the country. His work was awarded two "Best of Neocon" Gold Awards from the Resources Council of the Institute of Business Designers for the Houston Chair...
