About the Item

Issey Miyake has a unique architectural aesthetic mixing concepts that typically would be avoided by most designers. Fine, micro-pleating, one of his favorites, is incorporated into nearly all of his designs. This skirt is fascinating as it is made from pleated satin ribbons of fuchsia, scarlet, red, burnt umber, cerulean, shamrock green, aubergine, black and lime. The ribbons have been woven in order to create a checkerboard pattern all while gaining added texture and depth from the pleating. At just longer that a midi length, the skirt is slightly pegged allowing it to accentuate the hips while the thick verticals contrasting with the tiny pleats draw the eye upward giving the illusion of height. Size estimate: XS/S Waist: 24 inches Hips: 32-34 inches Length: 36 inches Unlined, this skirt sits on the waist with a plain black waistband and closes at the side with a concealed zip. In excellent condition, this Miyake skirt has been professionally eco dry cleaned and pressed. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself. - Follow us on Instagram @BASHAGOLD

Issey Miyake Green Blue Pleated Satin Ribbon Skirt, 1990s
By Issey Miyake
Located in Boca Raton, FL
Born in 1938 in Hiroshima, Japan, Issey Miyake throughout his career became a beacon of merging modernist elements of both Eastern and Western culture. Having trained extensively in Parisian couture houses, Miyake came to open his own studio in Japan in 1970. His focus was creating fashions with an experimental approach, most notably with his iconic usage of pleating. Made in lavish jewel tones of sapphire, emerald, and antiqued copper, this skirt incorporates unconnected rows of satin ribbons pleated in sections to compose this 1996 skirt...

Incredible Rare Issey Miyake Pleats Please Avant Garde Color Block Dress
By Issey Miyake
Located in Boca Raton, FL
Futuristic designer Issey Miyake has mastered the technique of creating sculptural works of art in cloth. His innovative pattern cutting and signature use of micro pleating give his garments a unique form. As one of the earliest designers to take on this style of fashion, Miyake is held in high regard as a pioneer of these creative, out-of-this-world fashions. From the Pleats Please line, this rare collector’s dress is done in a pleated fabric in shades of midnight blue, electric purple, red, magenta, cerulean, chartreuse, brown, sage, and neon green. The bright colors have a prismatic quality that makes the dress pop visually, giving the eye something new to appreciate from each angle while elevating this garment to a work of art. The dress begins with a high straight neckline and long sleeves that reach the wrists. The front of the dress is fitted throughout, creating an elegant sheath that falls to a maxi length several inches above the ankles. The body of the dress is done in midnight blue pleats with a section of purple at the bust and a section of neon green near the hem that draws the eye. Thigh-high slits at each side of the dress allow for greater ease of movement while introducing a welcome risqué element that helps balance the volume of material on display. Size: Small Measurements: Bust: 32 inches Waist: 30 inches Length: 50 inches An incredible panel at the back of the dress is made up of a vivid patchwork of color-blocked fabric, adding extra depth and gravitas to this Avant Garde masterpiece. The top of the panel can be folded over the front of the shoulders to create a curving, cocoon-like shawl, or folded together at the back like wings at rest. The panel spans the entire length of the dress and is slightly higher at the neck, adding volume and a delightful sculptural element to the otherwise columnar silhouette of the dress. An unforgettable addition to the discerning fashion lover’s wardrobe, this rare Issey Miyake Pleats Please dress is the perfect choice for a wedding, gala, or special occasion, and is sure to turn heads for many years to come. Issey Miyake Copper Pleated Spiral Skirt, 1990S
By Issey Miyake
Located in Boca Raton, FL
Issey Miyake is acclaimed for his awe-inspiring avant-garde designs that frequently make use of pleating and interesting plays with space and volume. While Issey Miyake continues to create incredible sculptural designs, the 1990s boasted some of his most iconic work. This skirt is made from a copper brown micro-pleated fabric that has been assembled along a spiral with an overall pencil silhouette. From a thin waistband, the skirt gently hugs the hips and then begins its spiral descent. The angle of the seaming paired with the pleats showcases a soft gleam that elevates this skirt’s futuristic aesthetic. At the hem, the spiral is ended with a creative flourish adding an element of surprise to the design. Done in all black with a minimal design, this skirt is an easy yet creative way to add an element of interest to an outfit for almost any occasion. This skirt also has a corresponding dress version that was worn by Mary Kate Olsen...

Dries Van Noten Sheer Silk Printed Pleated Skirt, Runway 2008
By Dries van Noten
Located in Boca Raton, FL
A remarkable talent of 21st century design, Dries Van Noten quickly captivated the world of fashion with his equally wearable and conceptual garments. Opening his Paris boutique in 2007 and then recognized by CFDA in 2008, Van Noten’s Fall 2008 collection stands as a monument to the designer’s growing acclaim. Implementing his signature abstract florals and unique color stories, the collection gave a psychedelic ethnic mood that is encompassed in this pleated, sheer, silk skirt. Sitting promptly at the waist with an austere black waist band, the delicate skirt is a sensory explosion of colors featuring tones of yellow ochre, mauve, red, and blue-green. The print rhythmically moves with the pleats slightly accentuating the hips as it moves into the dynamic, calf-length handkerchief hem. A vintage aura adds a particular charm to the seemingly futuristic print...
