About the Item

A 1960s Japanase ikebana studio pottery vase. Star form panels with central cylinder vase with vertical grooves finished in an off-white and green glaze. 'Made in Japan' stamp to base. Ikebana ("arranging flowers" or "making flowers alive") is the Japanese art of flower arrangement.[ It is also known as kado ( "way of flowers"). The tradition dates back to Heian period, when floral offerings were made at altars. Later, flower arrangements were instead used to adorn the tokonoma (alcove) of a traditional Japanese home.

A Large Chinese Ming Dynasty Polychrome Porcelain Dish, circa 1620
Located in London, GB
A large Chinese Ming Dynasty polychrome porcelain dish, circa 1620. Late Ming Dynasty. Painted in turquoise, black and red enamels with a central 'Split Pagoda' pattern scene, the cavetto with four landscape vignettes alternating with stylised seals. Many Mid-Century studio potters were inspired by the shapes and designs of ancient Chinese and Ming pottery. We believe this dish is a good example of this, which is why it will fit with both antique and modern interiors, making it the perfect cross-collecting piece. Circle of Henry Moore, Bronze Sculpture circa 1960, Signed H. Lurie. Cast at the Morris Singer Foundry in London, which was used extensively by Henry Moore to cast his works between 1961 and 1984. In 1967 the foundry was moved from London to Basingstoke. The stamp 'Morris Singer Founders London' on our sculpture means that it predates this move. Morris Singer is the oldest established fine art foundry in the world and has worked with most of the major sculptors from Thornycroft and Gilbert in the early days to Barbara Hepworth and Jacob Epstein, and many more recent artists like Eduardo Paolozzi, Michael Sandle and Philip Jackson...

A garlic bottle vase in an archaic Chinese form, but likely Japanese in origin. Several circumventing grooves however, suggest a more modern age. The color pallet recalls the Classic Jun Yao...
