About the Item

A beautiful Japanese Kutani ware ((九谷焼, Kutani-yaki)) ceramic porcelain pottery okimono statue/figurine of the legendary robed master monk Bodhidharma (Bodhidarma) the founder of Zen/Chan Buddhism. The red glaze of the robe is really quite spectacular on this work. He stands strong and is holding a hossu, the ceremonial staff used by Buddhist monks. This Daruma symbolizes perseverance, resilience, and enlightenment We are listing this piece as from the Showa period (1926-1989) but it could be older. We have seen similar works listed as from the 18th century. Would be a great addition to any Buddhist or Zen art/artifacts collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent piece in about any serring. Dimensions: 12" high, 5.25" wide, 4" deep
