Antique Korean Ceramic Bowl with Incised Design
About the Item
A Korean stoneware bowl from Goryeo dynasty circa 12th century. The conical form bowl with a small raised foot rim is covered in a celadon green glaze. Under the glaze, the interior is decorated with carved design of a floral pattern with scrolling foliage. The flower appears to be lotus bud that is about to bloom, a "flaming" form often found in Buddhism art in East Asia. There is a incised line circumventing the bowl under the rim. The exterior is plain without decoration. The glaze displays an overall fine crackles. Some sand residues remained mostly around the foot rim but also on the bottom of the interior.
For celadon bowls with similar carved decoration, see koo3142 and duk 347 in the collection of National Museum of Korea.
