A ceramic bowl with celadon glaze from Korea, circa 14th century (late Goryeo Dynasty). The particular shape of the bowl suggests that it is likely a "Bo" (Chinese) or "Hattara" (Japanese "Oryoki"). This is a Buddhism term derived from Sanskrit word "patra", which means "vessel that contains just enough". The container was used traditionally by Buddhist monks to ask for alms (donated foods by laymen). The deep volume and the wide opening are conducive to its utility function. The bowl is covered in a jade-color celadon which has very fine and uniform crackles throughout. Upon close inspection of the exterior wall, one can detect a very light brush of white slip circumventing the body. Antique ceramic covered box from the Sawankhalok kilns, Thailand of squat globular persimmon form with pinched sepal ridge and curled stem finial top decorated in a caramel brown and translucent white glaze on the stoneware biscuit in a saw tooth design at the shoulder and foliate vine scroll pattern on the body, two incised bands near the foot with a trimmed countersunk unglazed base with traces of the pontil firing scar. The interior of the base with a thin translucent glaze the interior of the lid unglazed. Tight fit of top to bottom. Evidence of a repair to a large chip to the interior rim of the base and two further small chips unrestored, the top clean without any restorations, overall fine condition. Measuring 2-3/4 in. high x 4” in diameter. (7cm x 10.2cm)

This is a very old interesting Chinese stoneware Longquan Celadon bowl or plate with incised decoration, which we date to the Yuan Dynasty, circa 1300.
The bowl is well potted on a low foot.
The bowl is an olive green colour having a celadon glaze with incised decoration to its centre of what looks like a flower stem and additionally three incised string lines to the outer wall. Unglazed parts fire to a terracotta brown colour as with the base section
The piece is unmarked but for similar pieces see the superb book: Chinese Ceramics by He Li published by Thames & Hudson, 1996; pages 164 to 184.
