About the Item
Described in ancient Chinese texts as the “moon dyed with spring water,” celadon ceramics are prized for their well-proportioned forms and luminous blue-green glazes. This vintage celadon vase was sculpted by artisans of the Mengrai Kilns in Chiangmai, Thailand, a small-scale workshop renowned for their celadon vessels and glazed stonewares, each crafted by hand using traditional methods.
The vase has an elegant form, sculpted with a round body, elongated bottle neck ending in a flared lip and strap handles at the shoulder with leaf motifs. The sides are decorated with etchings of birds and abstract patterns, then cloaked in a pale celadon glaze with sheer translucency and a distinctive, crackled finish. Stamped with maker's marks of the Mengrai Kilns.
Repaired break to one handle.
