About the Item

An exceptionally fine antique Chinese qing brush washer decorated in robins egg glazes and modelled as a moth dating from the 19th century. This rare and unusual porcelain brush washer is formed as a moth with the top beautifully formed as a moth with fine incised detail and with the edge based on the shape of the body of the moth. The brush washer has an opening with a shaped pouring spout in front of the moth’s head with two cylindrical formed brush holes to the moth’s back with slightly raised rims. The b rush washer is hand decorated in robin egg glazes with red glazed oil spot patterning and with gilding applied to the moth’s antennae. The brush washer stands on an unglazed foot rim and is not marked. Provenance: From the private oriental collection of an elderly gentleman. Acquired from the UK Art Market The brush washer is offered in good condition with wear associated with age and use. There is a small glaze chip to the front edge.
