About the Item

Described in ancient Chinese texts as the “moon dyed with spring water,” celadon ceramics are prized for their well-proportioned forms and luminous blue-green glazes. This vintage celadon vase was sculpted by artisans of the Mengrai Kilns in Chiangmai, Thailand, a small-scale workshop renowned for their celadon vessels and glazed stonewares, each crafted by hand using traditional methods. The small jar has a simple form reminiscent of kitchen pots, sculpted with tapered sides, a wide mouth and high shoulders topped by small strap handles. A pale green celadon glaze cloaks the vessel inside and out, finished with sheer translucency and an allover crackle. Stamped with maker's marks of the Mengrai Kilns.
