About the Item
Magnificent and large Japanese organically-shaped oval stoneware vase decorated with a granular deep blue colour (seirôsai), titled: ‘Ginga yô’ (far away galaxy)’ by Andô Hironobu (1940), a potter from Gifu province.
The inside of this heavy vase is light blue and shows partly an impressed motif.
Abstract bottom mark. Including original signed and sealed wooden tomobako (storage box), a set of postcards of this vase and other vase by the artist, a Japanese leaflet with a listing of the career of the artist and miscellaneous paperwork concerning the vase.
Weight: 33.51 lb/15.2 kg.
Andô Hironobu was a member of the Nitten Club, the Japan Federation of New Craft Artists, and the Gifu Prefecture Ceramics Artists Association. He also became the director of the Birou Ceramics Association and of the Gifu Ceramic Designers’ Association and received several awards including the Nitten Chunichi Prize and the Kato Kohei Prize.
