About the Item

Described in ancient Chinese texts as the “moon dyed with spring water,” celadon ceramics are prized for their well-proportioned forms and luminous blue-green glazes. This vintage celadon vase was sculpted by artisans of the Mengrai Kilns in Chiangmai, Thailand, a small-scale workshop renowned for their celadon vessels and glazed stonewares, each crafted by hand using traditional methods. The petite vase has an elegant form, sculpted with a squat, round body, narrow neck and two small loop handles. The vessel resembles a traditional water pot, a small vessel used to rinse calligraphy brushes in the scholars' studio. Devoid of carvings, the little jar is decorated only by the green celadon glaze that colors its silhouette with sheer translucency and a distinctive, crackled finish. Stamped with maker's marks of the Mengrai Kilns. Additional Dimensions: Diameter of Opening: 2.5"
