About the Item
A Korean ceramic storage jar circa 18th century of Joseon Dynasty. The jar is of a classic Maebyong form (known in Chinese as Plum Vase or Meiping). The vase features raised shoulder above a tall and slender body and a small mouth opening. This form appears more common in celadon production during the previous Goryeo dynasty. The jar has a white glaze with a slight blue-grey celadon tint and with very small and fine glaze crackles covering its surface. On its shoulder, there are two under-glazed floral design in an iron-brown color but appears greenish due to the kiln oxidation. One is more defined than the other . The simple hand-drawn decoration is full of folky charm. The piece displays impressive patina from years of use. Old and stable cracks are found on the body, along the base rim as well as radiating from the mouth rim, showcasing its aged beauty. There is an old paper label residue remained as shown.
