19th-Century Tibetan Copper and Brass Ritual Vessel with Applied Ornamentation
Located in Middleburg, VA
A richly detailed 19th-century Tibetan ritual vessel, hand-forged from copper and embellished with applied repousse and engraved brass medallions, geometric plaques, and symbolic mounts. Raised on three splayed feet, this bulbous, high-necked vessel features a domed body adorned with a dense array of ritual and decorative appliques, including stylized floral medallions, abstract symbols, and keyhole-like forms that reference tantric iconography. The vessel's expressive form is punctuated by three protruding spouts and retains its original arched swing handle with pierced brass finials. Meticulously decorated in traditional metalworking techniques, the surface patina reveals a rich, warm interplay between the copper ground and the golden brass overlay. An aesthetic that speaks to both spiritual function and ornamental sophistication. Likely used in ceremonial or domestic rituals, this vessel stands as a worthy testament to Tibetan artisanship and Buddhist ritual culture. A compelling piece for collectors of Himalayan antiques...
