It has a scroll carved base and sides as well four pagoda-shape cornices. The small, round mirror with high walls has been intricately and exquisitely cast with symbols . The turtle has a domed shell pieced to allow a cord to be strung through for handling or hanging.
A five charactesr mark is cast on the border.

Box is 14,2 x 5 cm
Surrounding the turtle and inscription is a densely cast landscape featuring pine trees with fantastic needles, two cranes with their 3 youngs, dense stalks of leafy bamboo. and a blooming prunus on the left side.
All are symbols of longevity. Bamboo also symbolizes resilience and prosperity. Bamboo asociated with prunus and pine are called the 3 frinds of winter.
The other side of the mirror is undecorated, and would originally have been highly polished, allowing the user to see their reflection in the polished surface.
The bronze with a wonderful, warm silver patina.

A ding of rectangular form and upon four cylindrical legs. A loop handle to each end and flanges to each corner and side. The ding is cast in relief on all four sides with a taotie mask, with a leiwen ground, the thunder motif depicted by juxtaposed square spirals. Above each taotie mask there are depicted kui dragons. Delicately and intricately hand-chased and hammered with geometric Anglo-Indian designs.
Consuming betel leaves with several ingredients such as wet lime paste, katechu, areca nut, cloves and even tobacco leaves has been popular in India from the fourth century AD.
The box was probably used to store the betel leaf used in the preparation of paan. Lime paste is mixed with grated areca nut and flavourings and the resulting mixture is rolled in the betel leaf to form a small parcel which can then be chewed. As well as being an integral part of Indian hospitality paan is believed to possess medicinal properties and was also taken as an aphrodisiac. The present box, which was elaborately designed for this purpose, would have been taken out ceremoniously on special occasions.

Anklets were important components in a suite of jewels worn by women in India. These very heavy examples are fabricated in two pieces, and tightly secured with a near-invisible pin. Some legends suggest that heavy anklets like these could weigh up to 20 pounds and were used to prevent brides from running away from their new families.
How it is made: "Dhokra is an ancient folk art tradition prevalent in India in the eastern states of West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Dhokra craft objects are made through the process of non-ferrous metal casting using the lost-wax casting technique, which is one of the earliest and most advanced methods of metal casting known to human civilization. Its roots can be traced back 4500 years to the ancient city of Mohenjodaro in the Indus Valley Civilization.
