Two Chinese Export Silver Place Card Holders by Wang Hing, Early 20th Century

About the Item

Two delightful Chinese export silver place card holders in the form of fans, by Wang Hing & Co., early 20th century, Canton, China. The place card holders crafted of silver in the form of an opened hand fan. One with Chinese characters reading "Gui Cai Ding", the other with a somewhat goofy looking dragon. The silver place card holders propped up by a folding kickstand. Marked "WANG HING" for Wang Hing & Co. Wang Hing & Co. is probably the most well known Chinese export silversmith and retailer. Their pieces were retailed by Tiffany and Co. here in the United States, and their designs are considered prototypes for the Chinese influenced silver designs created by Tiffany & Co. in the early 20th century, most notably the chrysanthemum pattern and bamboo pattern.
