About the Item

Fantastic 19th century Japanese Edo/Tokugawa period two-panel byobu screen featuring Chinese children frolicking on a garden terrace with a pavilion and large pine tree. Made in the Kano school style with ink and natural color pigments on mulberry paper. The top and bottom are bordered with fascinating gold leaf gilt clouds. Set in a later lacquer ebonized wood frame with a gilt silk brocade border. The painting displays beautifully intricate artistry and color.
