About the Item
20th century, Oriental coromandel lacquered wood screen
Measures: cm H 183,5 x W 40,5 a panel x D 2. Total W cm 162
Elegant four-panels screen in wood decorated with lacquer Coromandel made in the east in the early twentieth century. This screen, with an extremely modern taste, is easy to adapt in any environment, both combined with antique furniture and contemporary furnishings. Of great charm and decorativeness.
The painting, with a dark background, represents a plant with white flowers in a garden with rocks and palms, roses and other flowers, herons and birds, according to the characteristic styles of Chinese Oriental art. In the edges there are stylized phytomorphic decorations that are repeated accordingly.
The screen is decorated with a Coromandel lacquer. The lacquering technique for Coromandel screens, known as kuancai (literally "engraved colors"), emerged during the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644) in China and will have enormous success in Europe since the 17th century. The name Coromandel refers to the East Coast of the Indian Dekkan where screens from China were loaded onto the ships of the East India Companies carrying goods to Europe. The particular lacquering technique, very elaborate and refined, involves the application on a brown background of a thin canvas, on which a series of layers of lacquer were spread. The decoration was then engraved and the hollow parts were covered up to thirty layers of lacquer colors.

18th Century, Pair of Italian Rococo Chinoiserie Lacquered Wood Corner Cabinets
This pair of corner cabinets was made in Piedmont, Italy, around the middle of the eighteenth century according to the taste of the baroque.
The structure is in poplar wood, lacquered and decorated on the front side. The central body consists of an open door that conceals a compartment with two shelves. Above, a mixed cymatium crowns the piece of furniture and consists of two small tops bordered with gold leaf on red bole. Equally finished in gold are reserves and frames that decorate the furniture highlighting the various parts of which it is composed. Below the door, a open compartment is presented by a quadrilobate profile. The piece of furniture is decorated with floral ornaments and polychrome chinoiserie designs partly in relief thanks to the application of cast plaster. Inside the side frames are depicted characters dressed in oriental with floral decorations typical of fashion in chinoiserie. The two central doors have different designs, animated by oriental figures dressed in Chinese clothes...
