About the Item

Unique and finely made, this English Regency pole screen is constructed of beautiful Rosewood that’s hand-turned, carved and jointed, topped with a delicate finial with three cabriole legs that finish in slipper feet. The gravity concept of the brass rings that hold the needlework at various points on the pole is brilliant and still works today! The tri-foot base is constructed of hand-carved dovetail joints, affixing each leg to the center base. The octagonal shaped needlework is simple and portrays two birds facing a floral centerpiece. The colors are a warm pallet of dark russets, persimmons, peach, with shades of blues in the tail-feathers and supporting the floral arrangement. The needlework has been repaired in two spots as seen in the photos. This adds to the wonderful character of a piece of this age. A wonderful display piece in many room decors and highly sought after by collectors and designers.

Replacements made: It appears that the needlepoint board had a different back on it at some point from the marks seen in the photos of the backside of the piece. It was customary for these boards to be replaced or repaired due to the nature of what they were meant for. Rewoven. Wear consistent with age and use. There are two small areas of repair that seem to have been executed in the early years of this piece. These are seen in the photos as well.
