SALE - NOW SAVE 20% OR MORE Mint, boxed and dated 1936 (Showa 11) Hard to find complete Japanese mint and boxed album of fifty five (55) superb colored woodblock print postcards commemorating Japan's historic "Tokaido Road" landscape scenery originally created by artist by Ando Hiroshig . The Tokaido road (53 Stations) was the most important of Five Routes of Edo period Japan, connecting Kyoto to Edo (modern-day Tokyo). Dated 1936, (Showa 11) Tokaido Road. 55 prints complete in original custom crafted album with original box Print size: 5.5" wide and 3.5 inches high each. Album is 9 inches in length and 6 inches height and 2 inches thick Publisher: Takamizawa mokuhansha Complete with each postcard safely inserted and nestled into it own mount within the album and easily removable for viewing or framing- with original box just the way we like to find them. The individual prints are ready for immediate framing if you so choose. Collector box includes all original informative and descriptive brochures. You can enjoy viewing the individual prints or immediately frame the individual prints which are removable. A total of 55 separate woodblock prints are included, printed on thick paper stock. About the Tokaido Road and Hiroshige The Tokaido road was the most important of the Five Routes of the Edo period in Japan, connecting Kyoto to Edo (modern-day Tokyo). Unlike the inland and less heavily travelled Nakasendo, the Tokaido travelled along the sea coast of eastern Honshu, hence the route's name. The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido Tokaido Gojusan-tsugi), is a series of ukiyo-e woodcut prints created by Utagawa Hiroshige after his first travel along the Tokaido in 1832. These landscape prints took full advantage of the new possibilities offered by the Western representation of perspective, that Japanese artists had by now fully assimilated. Hiroshige's series met with full success, not only in Japan, but later in Western countries.

Chinese extraordinary natural stone "painting" with hardwood frame Sea and Mountains IV This Chinese extraordinary natural stone "painting" of a mountain range in white and gray colors is called a dream stone Shih-hua. They are cut from historic Dali marble found in the Cangshan mountains of western China. These mysterious mountains, unique in the world, are known for yielding incredible and fantastic natural landscaped works of art created over tens of millions of years from mineral inclusions that affected the process of ancient organic material which transformed into limestone and finally resulted in marble- a metamorphic hard stone. This art form is centuries of years old since the Ming dynasty. Dream stones became favored art in the west particularly since the 19th century when French collectors named them Pierres de reve. This thin marble stone "painting" is approximately 1/4" thick and is cut from a large slab of rough material revealing incredible patterns in soft white and gray colors. Its weight is surprisingly modest- easily hung with standard hardware. On occasion, private collectors would invite an artisan to inscribe a poetic description onto their more important dream stones and in this case the artists' seal mark and calligraphy translation reads: Dimensions: Frame 12 inches high and 20 inches wide.
