A wonderful set of four 19th century wood carvings each featuring two scholars in a garden pavilion. A combination of relief carving and pierced carving techniques are used in these pieces. The center in a treasure pot shape flanked by butterflies and surrounded by scrolls of foliage, all symbolic of prosperity and good fortune.
