About the Item

This is an old Japanese stone-carved frog, believed to have been created in the late Edo period (early 1800s–1860s). In Japan, frogs have long been regarded as symbols of good fortune. They are cherished as talismans for safe travels, prosperous business, and harmonious family life. This piece is captivating for its rugged yet humble carving. Rather than pursuing fine, lifelike detail, the artisan embraced the natural texture and strength of the stone to express the frog’s form. As a result, it carries both the raw beauty of natural rock and a sense of life, enriched by the patina of time. The surface shows gentle wear and tonal changes from decades of exposure to the elements. It can serve beautifully as an ornament for a garden or entrance, or as an indoor decorative piece. Its appearance transforms with shifting light and shadow, offering different impressions from every angle. The figure seems almost like a quiet guardian, watching over its surroundings. This stone-carved frog embodies the Japanese spirit of wabi-sabi—finding beauty in imperfection and in the changes brought by time. This sensibility is evident in its material, its carving, and its aged surface. Placed in a modern setting, it becomes an art piece that conveys the passage of time and the quiet power of nature. Weight: 7 kg _________________________________ Our Philosophy Objects always tell the truth. All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give them deep affection as much as I can. There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty. But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing today and to question us about an essence of beauty again. I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have, feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
