Japanese antique stone ornament "Daruma" /Appreciation stone /Scholar stone

About the Item

This is a type of rock that is produced in areas such as the Abe River in Shizuoka Prefecture, but it is also found in other regions such as Kanagawa and Chiba. These types of stones are generally round in shape, and some may even resemble a melon. Due to their round shape, they are known in Japan as "Daruma stones." Additionally, due to the iron content, some parts may appear slightly brownish, and because of their weight, they are also called "Iron round stones." The name "Daruma stone" comes from the resemblance to the sitting posture of the monk who brought Buddhism from India to China, which is symbolized in Japanese Daruma figurines. This stone closely resembles the Japanese Daruma figurine. To mimic the Daruma, it appears that the eye areas have been intentionally carved. Stones like this are believed to be the result of trilobites or worm-like organisms fossilizing, with calcium and other materials accumulating, forming concretions. It is quite heavy, weighing 7.65 kg. The base ring is also included. This is one of the largest Daruma stones I have encountered. It has a strong presence and impressive appeal. We mainly sell old Japanese items, but also items from around the world. We have seen tens of thousands of items so far. Using that experience, we list appealing items here. This is something we can do because of our long experience. If you are looking for something special, we encourage you to purchase it on our site.

Japanese "Suiseki" Mountain View Scholar's Stone / Elegant Mountain Scenery
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
This is a stone mined in Japan. Not only in China but also in Japan from ancient times, rocks in the mountains have been shaved and stones for viewing have been quarried. Such stones for appreciation are collectively called "suiseki". Suiseki means "water" and "stone". The name comes from the fact that I enjoyed pouring water on the stones and changing the color of the stones. And this item is also Suiseki, but it is for viewing without splashing water. It is made with the image of a mountain view. The flow of the river...
