About the Item

A gorgeous Japanese bronze temple shrine Buddha. The small piece has a beautiful aged patina and a wonderful, surprisingly hefty feel to it when held in your hand. We believe the piece is from the Edo period but it could be older as it resembles a few similar pieces we have seen from the Azuchi–Momoyama period (16th century). The previous owner from whom we acquired it told us that the piece was brought to the United States in the 1940s by a US serviceman when he left occupied Japan and that he had to have it export stamped "Japan" on the base in order to take it with him. Would be a great addition to any Japanese artifacts/ Asian Buddha collection or eye-catching stand-alone accent piece when properly placed in about any setting. Tibetan Bronze and Gilt Temple Shrine Sculpture of Deity Bodhisattva White Tara

This is a fantastic piece. Perhaps part of a Tibetan temple shrine at one time. Beautiful faded gilt coloring and patina. We believe this is the Tibeat figure of the white Tara, the goddess of great compassion. She is akin to the Chinese figure of Quan Yin.  We are listing as 20th century but could be older. Nice size and weight. Would be a great addition to any collection and sure to stand out in any setting. From a large collection of Chinese and Tibetan antiques...
