About the Item
Huge fish gong bell- first we have seen in this rare large scale size, 22 inches in length
Immediately useable.
Crafted using the ancient lost wax technique, this bell is a Japanese Shinto Suzu art style - dou-gyo bell, representative of China's earlier Ming Dynasty and is a form that has been in Japan since the early Edo period. It is attractively cast with decorative Buddhist Sanskrit characters. It was frequently used in a Shinto temple environment and when suspended was struck with a striker causing the metal pellets inside to resonate a high pitched sound that communicates to monks that training and workplace activities were about to begin.
We will include a complimentary striker , the complete ensemble totals two (2) pieces. You will be receiving the bronze fish gong/bell plus a striker.
Dimensions: Bronze Fish with suspension cord is 13 inches high to top of the antique braided suspension cord and 22 inches long. Heavy weight 11 pounds.
Handmade and hand cast fish with original and fine gray patina- just the way we like to find them.
Good garden candidate!
Comments: These huge, early and original old bronze fish gongs are very hard to find now. Our example is in fine condition with a desirable patina ready for your home or special garden space.
Lifetime guarantee of authenticity.

18th Century Qing Dynasty Fish Shaped Cricket Holder
Located in Incline Village, NV
Uniquely fabulous and highly unusual item for those seeking something different; this 18th century "cricket holder" from the Qing Dynasty is in the shape of a fish and is made of hand wrought metal, with nice detail and an open woven body which provided air to the cricket. A sophisticated clasp locking mechanism on the underneath of the fish kept the pet cricket contained in the caged holder. Obviously this was intact when someone at some point in time tried to remove whatever was inside by making a hole at the base of the tail to get it out (see image). This hand held cricket cage holder is in very nice and all original condition, save for the small hole; not fragile in any way; sturdy in structure with no repairs.
For over 1000 years the Chinese have used crickets...
