A good antique, 19th century (1863) granite stone Buddha - Shyaka Nyorai Sakyamuni- sculpture perched upon a square base. Signed lower Kanji front: Kaei 6 ( 1853) March 6. Good garden candidate In Japan, Kṣitigarbha, known as Sakyamuni is a sage of the Sakyas- among the most loved of all Japanese divinities. His statues can be found installed in many private shrines. This handsome hand carved example is sculpted from solid dark to medium granite stone, still retains much of its fine details. Its a good garden candidate with an authentic and sublime spiritual aura. Fine condition with overall softening of the lines and contours. Handsomely weathered from appropriate age. Dimensions: 27 inches tall and 9.5 inches wide History of Jizo: Jizo Bosatsu is one of the most beloved of all Japanese divinities, Jizo works to ease the suffering and to answer the prayers of the living for health, success, children, and all manner of mundane petitions.
