About the Item

A beautiful and quite engaging original large mixed media wall sculpture by contemporary/modern internationally recognized Japanese artist/sculptor Minoru Ohira (born 1950 in Niigata, Japan) whose work includes sculpture, drawing, and design (While Ohira’s work is quite unique, he has strong conceptual ties to artists such as Isamu Noguchi, Emiko Tokushige, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Kimio Tsuchiya, and Martin Puryear). This piece is titled "Luna Y Sol (Sun and Moon) #7". It was created primarily with split wood and slate - a staple of Ohiro's creations. The sculpture is signed and dated (1988) by the artist on the verso. Provenance: from a prominent Southern California art collection that included many of the artist's pieces. . Would be a great addition to any Japanese/Asian or Modern art collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in about any setting. Ohira's works can be found in many leading collections and museums including: Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, California Hokkaido Asahikawa Museum of Art, Asahikawa, Japan Niigata City Art Museum, Niigata, Japan The National Gallery, Bangkok, Thailand Hara Museum of Contemporary Arts, Tokyo, Japan Mexico National Museum of Art, Mexico City, Mexico Oh-Hara Fine Arts Museum, Kurashiki, Japan Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taipei, Taiwan Long Beach Museum of Fine Arts, Long Beach, California Pair City Building, Tokyo, Japan Tainai-City Community Center, Niigata, Japan Yoshida Junior High School, Niigata, Japan Kurokawa Elementary School, Niigata, Japan Kurokawa Junior High School, Niigata, Japan Habikino City, Osaka, Japan Silpakon University, Bangkok, Thailand Victorian College of Arts, Melbourne, Australia Honolulu Academy of Arts, Honolulu, Hawaii MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas Yamasa Institute of Language and Culture, Okazaki, Japan Coca-Cola Corporation Headquarters, Atlanta, Georgia Grand Hyatt Hotel Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan The Beach Club, Santa Monica, California Microsoft, Seattle, Washington Asahikawa City Sculpture Museum, Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan Ibara City Denchu Museum, Ibara City, Okayama, Japan Kanazawa City, Kanazawa, Japan Approximate dimensions: 46.5" high, 65" wide, 3" deep
