Qing Dynasty Exquisite Chinese Wooden Panel With Raised Figures Gold Leaf (n.2)
About the Item
We kindly invite you to read the entire description carefully, as we aim to provide detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our items.
This extraordinary Chinese wooden panel is finely carved and adorned with gold leaf. The piece dates back to the period between 1890 and 1900, toward the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911), and was crafted in the Canton region, renowned for its production and export of high-quality decorative objects during the 19th and 20th centuries. Chinese artisans used various types of wood, often chosen for their durability and ease of carving, to create panels like this. The wood was meticulously carved to achieve intricate details and then coated with gold leaf, giving the piece a luxurious and radiant appearance. Carved and gold-gilded wooden panels represent a traditional art form that reflects the craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage of China. These works often depict scenes of daily life, idyllic landscapes, birds, and flowers, which symbolize prosperity and harmony in Chinese culture. Such panels were commonly used to decorate the interiors of homes or temples, or as parts of screens and furniture. The scenes portrayed on these panels frequently held symbolic meanings, often tied to auspicious motifs, historical events, or elements of Confucian and Taoist philosophy. The inclusion of trees, pavilions, and human figures in traditional attire may reference stories from Chinese folklore or classic garden scenes. The artisans' exceptional skill is evident in the intricate details and the brilliance of the gold gilding, which adds depth and luminosity to the depicted scenes. On the back of the panel, there is a red wax seal (see photos), a traditional mark of authenticity and provenance for items of artistic or historical value. The seal contains Chinese characters indicating the maker’s name and the year of production, although, unfortunately, the characters are partially illegible. This panel is not only a decorative piece of rare beauty but also a valuable testament to the rich artistic tradition of China. It is an ideal choice to enrich any space with a touch of elegance and history.

Qing Dynasty-Style Set of 4 Chinese Wooden Nesting Side Tables
Located in Prato, Tuscany
Please carefully read the complete description below, where we provide technical and historical details to ensure the authenticity of our items.
This is an original set of four Chinese side tables crafted from black lacquered oak. Known as nesting or interlocking tables, these pieces fit into one another and have a long tradition in China as both functional and decorative furniture. The production of high-quality furniture, including nesting tables, is historically associated with the Suzhou region, renowned for its fine craftsmanship and classical Chinese-style furniture. Interlocking wooden side tables were especially popular during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), although their use dates back to earlier times.
This particular set dates from the late Qing Dynasty, between 1902 and 1905, and was crafted in the Suzhou region by skilled cabinetmakers who executed precise, intricate geometric carvings under each table top. These geometric patterns represent auspicious symbols in Chinese culture and reflect traditional decorative motifs. The tables are made of sturdy oak, ideal for durable furniture, and finished with a black lacquer. The oak used originates from the mountainous northern regions of China, such as Shanxi and Shandong.
Stackable and space-saving, nesting tables are perfect for rooms where space optimization is essential. When needed, they can be easily separated and used individually as tea tables...
