About the Item
19th century auspicious carved panel story board. Chinese carved wooden panel of one solid piece of carved wood set in a wooden frame. A Chinese carved wooden panel telling an Auspicious story. To the center of the relief carving bottom are the sun and the moon having two immortals above sun and the moon representing the heavens. To the top is the bat representing the five blessings: health, long life, prosperity, love of virtue, and a tranquil, natural death. To the left and right are the presence of two immortals representing Knowledge and understanding of the five blessings. The bat has insight as it can see in the dark, sharing a message of how happiness is attained when understanding the five blessing.
The carvings are deep within the wood panel and of a high quality. Some remnants of red lacquer to the surface. Red symbolizing Joy also the color of fire representing happiness, beauty, vitality, good luck, success and good fortune. A fantastic and powerful art piece.
