19th Century Chinese Dragon Carving. Qing Dynasty Double Sided Wood Carving of Eight Dragons inside a circle medallion style. Unique wood carving of Eight Chinese dragons within a circle. A circle represents harmony, the balance of the yin and yang and the duality of nature, also the perpetuation of life, circle of life. In Chinese belief the number Eight is amongst the luckiest of numbers being very auspicious also considered as double of something. The image similar to the Chinese symbol of Double Happiness. Within this carving having a mirror image to both sides creates a double of the eight dragons making this wood carving extremely significant with its blessing or representation of good fortune doubled. Remnants of red color remain to the sides, and within the details of the carving. Some visible old repairs inherent age are evident but not detracting and appear to be small. in good condition. A very specail and auspicious wood carving with Chinese folk art Dragons. Easily hangs on to a wall resting on a nail or hook.
