Meissen Porcelain Cubist French Horn Musician Figurine by Peter Strang

A fine vintage Meissen porcelain figurine. By Peter Strang. Strang was born in Dresden in 1935 and received a degree in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden in 1960. Peter was a founding member of the Meissen 1960 artists' collective and would go onto model hundreds of different pieces for Meissen over the years. In the form of a musician playing the french horn, clothed in green garb and accompanied by a small dog. Both the horn and the plinth are gilt. In a cubist style. Simply a wonderful miniature from one of Meissen's masters! Date: 20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with no cracks, or repairs. Condition Details: There are some losses to the paint of his hat. A minor chip to the snout of the dog. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Meissen Marks: Marked to the base with a blue underglaze crossed swords Meissen maker's mark, and with a molded 'PS' monogram to the plinth. Measurements: Height: ca. 3 1/2 in.
