About the Item

This superb Grand Tour Italian bronze study depicts Narcissus, who in Greek mythology was known for his fine looks and physique. The story tells how he rejected the attention of others and fell in love with his reflection in a pool of water. Tragically unable to leave his beloved reflection, he perished by the water's edge. The inner meaning of this myth is not to love yourself before others. This classical study is heavily cast in solid bronze with very good detail and finished with a dark brown patina. This lovely decorative bronze is in excellent condition. Italian, circa 1890
