Pyramid in wood and mixed metals by EMAUS, original souvenir Mexico 68 Olympics
About the Item
Sculpture depicting a Mayan Pyramid, a very rare souvenir from Mexico 68 Olympic games made with tropical dark wood and an assortment of mixed metals. It was elaborated by "Talleres Monásticos" (Emaus). Talleres Monásticos was a workshop in a Benedictine Monastery in Morelos, Mexico. The monks manufactured beautiful decorative works with wood and various metals, mainly religious or biblical themes. The sale of these items -and some crops- provided an income for the livelihood of the monastery. This effort was led by Francisco De la Mora, a highly talented architect and designer -turned Benedictine monk- who projected and built the beautiful Monastery and organized the creative work in it. It was Pedro Ramirez Vázquez (the mastermind behind all the planning of the Olympic Games Mexico68) who invited De la Mora to contribute with Emaus designs as Souvenirs of this great Sports and Culture event.
