Louis Comfort Tiffany Favrile Glass Vase #1055 LCT Peacock Blue Vase C. 1900

About the Item

**L.C. Tiffany Favrile Iridescent Glass Vase No. 1055, circa 1900** This hand-blown art glass vase by Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) exemplifies the refined elegance of Favrile glass, patented in 1894 and produced at Tiffany’s Corona, New York studios. Of classic bottle form with a bulbous base and slender neck, the vase is finished in deep cobalt and peacock-blue iridescence, displaying shimmering tones of violet, emerald, and gold under light. The signature on the base—*“L.C. Tiffany Favrile #1055”*—confirms its authenticity and numbering in Tiffany’s production. Favrile glass was celebrated for its embedded color and iridescent surface, achieved through the inclusion of metallic oxides in the molten glass and further manipulated in reduction firing. Tiffany’s process yielded a lustrous finish inspired by ancient Roman glass and natural phenomena such as peacock feathers or butterfly wings—central themes in the Art Nouveau aesthetic. The shape of this vase reflects Tiffany’s interest in organic forms, with its swelling body and tapering neck evoking the contours of a flower bud or gourd. While some Favrile pieces feature pulled or feathered motifs, this example relies on pure form and radiant color to achieve its effect. The vase’s visual brilliance, craftsmanship, and fluid silhouette situate it among Tiffany’s most elegant non-figurative designs. Comparable examples reside in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Brooklyn Museum. As a signed and numbered work by Tiffany Studios, this vase exemplifies the innovation and beauty that defined American art glass at the turn of the 20th century and remains a touchstone of the Art Nouveau movement in the United States. Louis Comfort Tiffany Gold Favrile Art Glass Floriform Pedestal Vase
By Louis Comfort Tiffany
Located in Cincinnati, OH
This elegant iridescent gold Favrile art glass vase was made by Tiffany Studios operating under the direction of Louis Comfort Tiffany. Tiffany Favrile Glass was first offered to the public in 1893 and this hand-blown piece dates to the mid-to-late 1920s. The vase has a warm golden glow and was crafted with a wide domed pedestal base that gives way to a ribbed body. The body flares slightly as it rises and transitions dramatically to a wide shallow neck that terminates in a scalloped-edge rim. As seen in the accompanying photographs, the well-balanced piece is nicely proportioned and displays beautifully. The vase stands 8.375" as measured to its tallest point and is 3.75" across the rim. The foot is 4" from edge to edge. The piece is free of chips and cracks and is presented in original condition with no restoration or repair. The underside bears a typical Tiffany Studios late production compound number signature reading L. C. Tiffany Inc. - Favrile and includes shape number 1548 followed by serial number 3164 N.
