Chase Gamblin
Chase Gamblin is an artist primarily working in ceramics. Currently, he is an Academic Specialist and Studio Coordinator for the Ceramics Department at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Gamblin received his BFA in Ceramics at the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, TN in 2007. He then studied and received his MFA in Ceramics at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. Gamblin traveled nationally and internationally for residencies in Vicchio, Italy (2008), Sanbao, China (2009 and 2012) and University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND (2010-2011), where he also taught as a ceramics visiting lecturer. A beautifully executed, handmade, wood-turned weed vase by master woodturner Rude Osolnik who is widely regarded, along with Bob Stocksdale, as one of the finest woodturners in American woodturning history. In 1992, he was presented by then-Kentucky Governor Brereton Jones, with the Milner Award, the Governor's Award for Lifetime Achievement.
The vase is made from spalted wood (hard to make out the exact wood on the base) and features highlighted wood grain and shades of dark and light areas. It is signed "Osolnik Originals" and "Spalted ...." by the Osolnik on the base.
A gorgeous and engaging gem of a piece that clearly makes an impact. Would be a great addition to any Midcentury Modern or wood-turned collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone work in about any setting, midcentury or otherwise.

Vintage ceramic bud vase features sculptural multi spouted shape and stunning textured drip glaze in earthy, organic brown palette. The gradation glaze color and abstract graphic pattern of the main decor emphasize the soft, rounded shape of the vase; the use of shades of brown, from dark espresso to mocha to off-shite cappuccino, creates rich and varied, but monochromatic palette that does not overpower the complex form and shape of the vase.
The vase is signed on the bottom with LEE, that was Lee Levy customary signature; it is not dated, but the style of the piece is consistent with her Mid-Century Modern pieces created in 1960s-1970s.
Leah "Lee" Levy (1922 - 2011) was an established pottery artist based in Upstate New York area. She was born in Pinsk, formerly in Poland, now in Belarus, and moved to the United States in 1929, growing up in Brookline, Massachusetts. She and her husband Irving started their first pottery studio in Long Island, New York, in late 1940s, while training at the Alfred University School of Ceramics alongside with some of the foremost artists and craftsman in America.
