About the Item

This is Japanese Shigaraki or Iga ware. Shigaraki is a historic kiln located in Shiga prefecture, Japan. It is said to have originated around the 8th century. There are 6 kilns with a long history that still continue in Japan, It is one of them. In addition, Iga ware is a kiln located in Mie prefecture, Japan. The origin is said to be around the 8th century. Iga ware mainly made tools for tea. There are two places marked with red circles on the map. The upper part is Shigaraki and the lower part is Iga. Both areas are close to each other and use the same clay. Also, it is difficult to distinguish because the designs are similar. This jar is thought to have been burned during the Momoyama period around 1573-1603. A jar with a shape similar to an art book was posted, so I will post the image. It is a very beautiful glaze and the shape is also interesting. It is naturally glazed and you can enjoy different expressions at any angle of 360 degrees. Also, as a feature, the bottom is uneven like "=". This is a feature common to Shigaraki and Iga around the Momoyama period. It is in very good condition with no defects. However, if you add water, it will stain from the bottom, so if you want to decorate the flowers, put water in another container and put it in the jar. Its small size allows it to be placed anywhere. It is not possible to obtain such a beautiful glaze jar. It is a rare item. A special storage wooden box is attached. The wooden box says "Shigaraki ware", but it may be Iga ware. Weight: 2.6 kg "Note" There are no big scratches, but if you put water in it, it will stain from the bottom, so if you want to decorate the flowers, put water in another container and put it in the jar.
