Spectacular 'Morser', Florence, Italy, 17th century

About the Item

The mortar is of exceptional quality. The sculptural execution of the carved decoration is appealing. Large scrolls of leaves terminate in stylized eagle heads. The sides are adorned with carved lion masks and the lower body is decorated with round lamellae. The impressive size, the realization in "Rosso di Verona" and the Mannerist decoration make this mortar an almost unique testimony of museum quality pharmaceutical devices. Florence, early 17th century The carved pestle is from 19th century. HD photos are available.
