About the Item
Use this elegant set of six antique plates to serve appetizer or desert to your guests! Crafted by LM & Cie, Creil et Montereau in France, circa 1860, each hand painted ceramic plate features funny every day life scenes or anecdotal daily events with French wording; each plate is further embellished with floral decor around the rim. The Napoleonic plates are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a rich black and white patinated finish. Stamped in the back "Creil et Montereau, Medaille d'Or, LM & Cie", for further authentication. One plate has a very small hairline crack on the side (see last picture).
Creil-Montereau faience is a faïence fine, a lead-glazed earthenware on a white body originating in the French communes of Creil, Oise and of Montereau, Seine-et-Marne, but carried forward under a unified direction since 1819. Emulating the cream ware perfected by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s, and under the artistic and technical direction of native English potter entrepreneurs, the faience of Creil-Montereau introduced the industrial technique of transfer printing on pottery in France and raised it to a high state of perfection during its peak years in the 19th century.

Le Parisien is the story of a little boy discovering country life, designed by the French artist and painter Antoine-Albert Richard (1845-1921) named "Froment-Richard". He designed several sets for the French Creil & Montereau manufacture, but "Le Parisien" is the most famous with a brown rim enhanced with groups of three petals and ex. The dinner set depicts a fantastic and humorous universe. Wonderfully decorated all the characters' clothes are exquisitely detailed, they play with vegetables, fruits, meat, and fish.
